Liebster Award

Changing things up a bit for this Sunday. Rather than food, I’m going to talk for a second about…myself.  It’s not as self-centered as it sounded.  I’ll explain.

Yesterday I opened my email to find a note from the Lovely Laura over at Incredibly Edible nominating me for a Liebster Award! If you haven’t checked out Laura’s blog, you should because it’s all kinds of awesome, and she shares tons of delicious, WHOLESOME, non-fake recipes. My kind of girl.  Page through her site and you may just find yourself unconsciously drooling…like I did.

Anyway, for those of you not in the know, a Liebster Award is not sanctioned by any higher power, but a way for bloggers to get to know each other.  I love it…I mean, who doesn’t like more friends?  I accept, and have to do the following:

1) Thank the nominating blogger…WOO! LAURA! THANKS!

2) Post the Liebster badge (see below)

3)  Answer 11 questions posed by the nominator.  So, here’s some stuff about me…

What is your most favourite blog to follow and why?

It’s funny because I was never a blog reader until I became a blogger!  Now I’m obsessed. It’s hard to pick from all the excellent ones I stumble upon, but I think the one that got me really interested in food blogging was Smitten Kitchen. My friend Licorice first linked me to Deb’s Shakshuka recipe and I’ve been hooked since.

How long have you been blogging for?

I’ve been at this for almost two years. At first I did it just for me and my friends, but it wasn’t until about 1 year in that I started taking it “seriously.”  Before it was just something silly that I did.

What time of day do you write the best content for your blog?

I tend to “write” them best as I’m cooking and talking to myself…and then promptly forget everything I want to say! However, if I’m sitting down to write, the words flow most smoothly with my morning coffee.

What would be the first thing you would do if you won a million dollars?

Pay off my law school loans! That’s the least exciting answer, but it’s the most truthful! After that, I’d treat my friends to a lovely vacation and probably bank the rest.

Where do you see yourself in five years from now?

It’s so hard to think about where I will be five years from now because where I am now is not at ALL where I thought I’d be five years ago! I guess what I most wish for myself is to make this blog thing something more than just a hobby. Hopefully, life will include a husband and a few rugrats running around.

Which book would you encourage others to read?

This sounds so silly but I absolutely love the Harry Potter series. So incredibly well written, I think that Rowling introduces the reader to such a magical world that would give back even the most steadfast grown-up a little bit of that child-like wonder.  Another book I just really loved was Rule of Civility by Amor Towles.  Something about that one just spoke to me, and it’s probably the favorite of all my book club reads.

What is the most treasured item you own and why?

My photo albums. I’ve spent hours scrapbooking all of my trips from the past 15 years, and if I had a fire in my apartment, they’re what I’d run back in to save.

Where were you born?

BUFFALO NEW YORK! Because of this, the Buffalo Bills are my team, I say pee-can rather than pa-cahn, eat blue cheese with my chicken wings and I can appreciate the awesomeness of Canada.

Whats your dream job?

I always joke that a few of my friends and I could open a legit catering business since we love it so much and can rock a serious dinner party.  I think if we could do it in the manner of Monica and Phoebe on Friends, that’d be the best.

Tea or coffee?

Coffee in the morning, tea every other time. Always hot, rarely iced.

Sweet or savoury?

My sweet tooth will be the death of me.

4) Post 11 random facts about myself

My oldest stuffed animal is Patrick, a snow leopard. He wears a jacket, even though one of my biggest pet peeves is animals dressed as humans.

My favorite movie as a kid was the Wizard of Oz, and I would skip on the fireplace brick step like it was the yellow brick road.

I love crossword puzzles. I seek them out and get really angry when the one in the airplane magazine is already done when I sit down.

My car is notoriously messy, and no matter how hard I try to keep it clean, it never is.

My favorite Halloween costume was “Elliot the Dragon” from Pete’s Dragon. I had a huge stuffed tail that mom made me and I carried it thrown over my shoulder. It was awesome.

My brother and I are Irish twins and are the same age for two weeks every year. We also have a car dance that goes with every song you can think of. It can be modified to do on land.

My favorite cake is a Carvel Ice Cream Cake. It comes from having a summer birthday. My second favorite cake is white cake with lemon filling and buttercream icing.

I collect pins from the places I’ve been. If there is a Hard Rock Cafe in that town, I’ll get that one before I buy a generic one.

The most embarrassing song on my iPod, to me, is “How can we be lovers if we can’t be friends“,  by Michael Bolton.  This says a lot because I also have a lot of Glee on my iPod…

After crapping on and being anti-country music for 31 years of my life, it’s all I’ve been listening to for the past two. I heart Luke Bryan SO MUCH.

I have Mickey Mouse feet slippers and wear them so much I’ve worn through two pairs.

5) Nominate 11 other bloggers

Helen at Scrummy Lane. Simple, flavorful…just fantastic dishes.

Annie at Annie’s City Kitchen, a baking and beauty blog also based in our lovely Windy City.

Oana at Through Oana’s Len’s, also inspired by travel (she’s cooked some amazing places!)

Monique at Ambitious Kitchen. You’ll only want to use brown butter after trying some of these recipes!

Angie at Angie’s Recipes. A delicious taste of home.

Christy at The Girl Who Ate Everything.  She’ll make you want to eat all of her things.

Sneh at Cook Republic. Everything she makes is just SO PRETTY.

Heather at The Flourishing Foodie. Fresh and Fabulous.

Kevin at Closet Cooking.  Big Food from Little Spaces.

Camille at My Little Jar of Spices.  Gluten-free, Paleo Deliciousness.

Allison at By Allison. She’ll tell you about all the cool things.

6 ) Ask them 11 questions of my own:

What inspired you to start blogging?

Two part question:  What is your most favorite mom-food meal and restaurant meal?

Cake or pie?

If you could be any sort of professional athlete, what sport would you play?  If you don’t like sports, what sort of professional hobbyist would you be?

What is your favorite place in the entire world?

What you do on your most perfect day?

What is the thing that you’ve done of which you are most proud?

What is the innate talent that you don’t have but that you really wish you did have?

What is the most embarrassing song you have on your iPod?

What is your #1 indulgence, food or otherwise?

If you could pick an actor to play you in the movie of your life, who would it be and what would your movie be titled?

7) Go to the nominees’ blogs to let them know that they have been.  Done!

I hope you check out their pages and get to know some of my new friends!

  1. Awesome reply Chrissy! And thank you for your kind words:) I really enjoyed reading your 11 random facts! I too love crosswords and hate when other people have done them already, or worse, half done them! I will be sure to check out all of your nominees blogs, they all look really inspiring. :)

    • Chrissy says:

The half done ones (with wrong answers) are the worst! Looking forward to following some new food blogs, so thanks again for this!

  2. Thank you so much Chrissy!!! I love this award because I get to know a little bit more you and hopefully about all the other bloggers you have nominated :) Really enjoyed your 11 random facts!

OMG, if you still lived in Buffalo we could have seen Luke Bryan at Darien Lake last weekend…..ahhhhh. Oh Luke, swoon, swoon, swoon. Glee music, car dances, we’re the same person, except my stuffed animal, mr. bear, wears a Marineland pink t-shirt. ha.

    • Chrissy says:

Everyone loves Marineland! My grandparents lived in Fort Erie until about 2004ish and we used to go there every summer. That’s probably why we’re the same person.

  4. Hey, Chrissy, I so enjoyed reading your answers! I love that you say ‘pee-can’ (me too!) and enjoy Harry Potter (me too, too!)
And of course, a HUGE thank you for mentioning me and my blog! I feel so honoured … really, thank you! :-)

    • Chrissy says:

You’re oh-so very welcome! I feel like our blogs are so similarly themed. And do you know how much crap I get for pee-can? I’m glad to have an ally!
