I’m so excited about this food I’m paralyzed. Okay, that made me sound scared, which I’m not, but for the first time in recent memory I went grocery shopping without a plan, and ended up coming home with a bunch of seemingly random ingredients that I somehow intend to form into some semblance of delicious over the next week. This week I present to you the food of the Pacific Northwest/Western United States. Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, Idaho and Montana.

The name of the game here is FRESH. I love that word, the feeling it invokes in any context, but I particularly I love that type of food. The people there focus on locally produced and harvested food and wine, which means that they are big on fruit, veggies, seafood. High quality ingredients simply prepared. When you have the best raw stuff, it doesn’t take a whole lot of effort to make them shine (a lesson I’ve learned time and again as I’ve eaten around the world…I’m looking at you, Spain). While the ingredients I bought and the food I’m making may seem more summer than fall, I can’t imagine you’d be snubbing your nose at any of these dishes. I know I sure won’t be.

Like I said before, I had a hard time pin pointing my favorite recipes, so in the end what I’ve come up with is sort of a bunch of mash-ups that try to combine the best of all. There may be more, and it may be more than one week of this food…
