Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

It was such a nice, relaxing week that culminated in a great weekend with mom, who came to town for my birthday. Though it was slightly warmer that I would have liked, that’s what I get for having been born in August.  Friday we did a little shopping, went to NoMI Garden for some cocktails (#drunkwithmom) and then ended with a dinner of all things rich and delicious at Devon Seafood Grill, notably the lobster mac ‘n cheese which is one of my favorite treats ever (pasta aversion aside).  The day made me realize that I could totally be a lady who lunches.

Or, at least a lady who must buy a whole new wardrobe from eating too much lobster mac ‘n cheese.

Worn out from all Friday’s excitement, after a long walk, we spent Saturday sitting on opposite couches under matching blue blankets wearing our pajamas each reading a Kathy Reichs’ novel until around 5:30 when we figured we should get something to eat.  Thanks to Whole Foods, our spread included a sushi roll, lemon artichoke soup, three tacos and fried plantains. Followed by three types of ice cream.  Lorelei Gilmore would be proud.

Swanky brunch with the girls capped off a birthday week so fun I can’t wait for 35.

Wait, NO, I didn’t say that.

Anyway, here’s what made me go ‘huh’ this week:

Straight out of Harry Potter, a two-headed cobra. Mom and I could not stop looking away despite the fact that we were both totally ick-ed out by it.  Don’t look, but LOOK!

Toy Story 4.  Tissues ready.

Science, ya’ll.  The Earth is still round, but we got it’s center wrong.  The Prime Meridian might not really be the 0 degree longitude we all thought it was. Still, a great photo op.

Proof that people have always been chock full of bad ideas. An alligator petting zoo from yesteryear.  I’ve always had a love/hate with alligators from growing up in Florida. I think they’re fascinating, but am also deathly afraid of being eaten by them.

Google is always watching.  Unbelievable photos captured by Google street view.

History in the making in Nigeria.  Took long enough.

This man traveled to 198 countries without quitting his full-time job.  High five to him! #Jealous.

Robin Williams. A beautiful tribute.

The strange diets of successful people.  I’d pick Warren Buffet’s.  It’s the best one.

I’m all for plastic surgery if it makes you feel better about yourself. Bravo, Ariel Winter!

Grabbing this from Joy the Baker, Life Tips…and tears and snot everywhere.

And, finally, while not old, I am too old for this.

Have a good week!

  • what a super fun birthday week/weekend. Obviously, because we’re internet twins, I also have a pasta aversion. It’s fine, I guess, but unless made fresh, I don’t really care.

Oh Lorelei Gilmore would be so proud! Remember the candy sushi after Rory doesn’t go to Asia with Logan? (booooo Logan #teamjess)

Read “when I’m gone” a few weeks ago, probably right after Rosie died because I’m a sadist like that. So many tears.

3 cheers for Warren Buffet; we share a love for cherry coke (well, cherry coke zero for me…..and no, you can not easily find that north of the border)

    • I can’t believe you don’t like pasta because carbs! I know about the bread (which, may be your nickname, even though I’ve thus far failed to nickname you), but the pasta shocks me. While I agree with #teamjess, I think that she’s probably moved on to someone way better since then. I mean, she’s like, our age now. Scary…
