White Chocolate Egg Nog Coffee

White Chocolate Egg Nog Coffee

I’ve been really disappointed by my lackluster showing of Christmas spirit as of late, and it had to stop. So a few days ago, I sat myself down for a firm talking to, put on the music, pulled out the decorations and got to decking the halls. And made myself this drink. This white chocolate egg nog coffee drink.

It worked.

I’m not about to say that the coffee was solely responsible, but…it helped a lot.  That, and the Justin Bieber/Arianna Grande playing on Pandora (ONLY during Christmas, I swear. Otherwise, ew).

We can discuss my thoughts on the latter another time, but for today, let’s talk about this coffee. I love coffee, but I’ll be honest that I’m not adult/hard core enough to drink it black, but also not so weak kneed (sorry) to buy all things sweet and sugary.  I need a little balance, usually. Balance, this drink does not have. It’s a sweet one, but it’s the holidays so it’s encouraged that we consume all the sugar.

The recipe is inspired by a similar one from Yvette van Boven’s Homemade Winter.    This book was last month’s cookbook club selection and despite all my best efforts, I just couldn’t make it to the meeting. However, paging through it has left me drooling like a fool over so many of the dishes. Inspired by the foods of both Ireland and France, it’d make you drool, too.

My main change from her recipe is my egg nog addition, making it appropriately seasonal for these winter times.  What makes it special is her genius suggestion to top the whipped cream with cardamom powder.

Yes, genius.

All of it combined makes for a very special and delicious twist on coffee.  A messy one, but that’s part of the fun, right?
