Sunday Somethings

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

This week. What happened this week?  Work, things…I don’t know. The past three weekends have been a slurry of activity, all of which included sweating profusely under scorching sun, and I’m excited to sit today and just take a deep, air-conditioned breath.

Ahh.

The picture above comes from yesterday, when a couple of my friends and I volunteered with Chicago Cares. We went to an elementary school and painted this world map in the courtyard of the kindergarten classroom, and if I say so myself, we did a great job.  Plus, lots of fun times.

How was your week?  I hope you, too, get to take a deep ahhh breath today. It’s Sunday and we’ve earned it.

The news.  For better or worse, this is what entertained me.

Brexit. It happened. And it turns out a lot of people didn’t know what they voted for (before we get all judg-y, let’s see what our google searches look like on November 5th).

Related:  The comedians will have their fun.

Despite the darkness in Orlando, lights do continue to shine.

Oh dear, as one who cuts her hair twice year, this is ridiculous.  Mom hair. It’s a thing. Apparently, a bad thing.

Happy tears.  Sunday’s requisite animal video.

#NoWomanEver.  Hilarious, so and so sadly #truestory.

Science, ya’ll.  The Walking Dead? Not quite, but it seems that when we die, not all of us does.

Horror, horror.

This makes me so sad.  From bomb scares to mass shootings. Today’s new unfortunate reality.

Need some inspiration for next weekend’s festivities?  Here are a few ideas.

Now on my wish list?  This scarf.  P&P, obviously.

And finally, I’ll admit that I had the MMMBop single (who’s with me?), so I love this doo-wop version.  More songs should be doo-wopped.

Have a great week!

Written after some sleeping in.

Hello, Sunday.

Well, what a week. Not such good news out there in the world.  Let’s try and make this week better. It starts with one.

Tomato and I have been having adventures at the Windy City Lake Shake, a country music fest by the lake.  The usual cast of characters have been present, and as usual, adventures with Tomato tend to be the best kind.*  They continue tonight, capped off with some Jason Aldean.  #ShesCountry.

Oh, and Happy Father’s Day, dads! And you too, Big Buddha, wherever you sit watching over me.  I saw Lady A a few nights ago and danced in your place.

Before the day beings, let’s sit down with a cup of tea and read some things.  Here we go:

No one needs to justify a three week vacation to me, but for those of you that need convincing, here it is.

Did Jurassic Park teach us nothing? Spoiler alert: that did not end well. You know what else are dinosaurs? Alligators. We’re not doing so well with those either. Let’s keep the past in the past, science.

In the face of tragedy, the world comes together.

Anyone who has ever received an unsolicited d*&k pick, here is your revenge. Gentlemen, be warned. And everyone, keep what’s in your pants or under your shirt off the internet- guys and girls.  Let’s be ladies and gentlemen.

Dads, making parenting fun. Or, funny.

Back when I lived in London, I lived next door to a pretty hot guy that was famous in the same way that Paris Hilton was around that time. His name was Calum Best.  Seems that he’s now Famously Single in a new reality show. Grab the popcorn and ice cream.

Remember how I was obsessed with and binged through Call the Midwife? Here’s why you should too. So good!

For anyone making travel plans, I can’t speak more highly of Intrepid Travel, who I used for Nepal 2011, Peru 2012 and Nepal 2014.  Apparently, I’m not alone.

And finally, hop over to Cookies for England and meet Emilie. She’s the bees’ knees!

That’s all I’ve got. Let’s hope this week trumps the last.

No, go out and enjoy that sunshine!  Have a good week!

*You can follow our adventures at #AdventuresofPotatoeandIke.  The story goes that one day, we were sitting around and Tomato said that if she ever got a dog, it’d be a French bulldog, and that she’d name it Potatoe.  I countered that if I ever got a dog, it’d be a black lab, and I’d name him Ike.  The next day, I was walking down the street and I saw a lady walking both a French bulldog and a black lab.  As such, that’s what we’ve become, and so were named our adventures.

Written before shakin’ it like a country girl.

How to Throw a Picnic, the FancyPants Way

How to Throw a Picnic, the FancyPants Way

A picnic today because it’s summer and that is what we should all be doing, at least once this season. Outside weather permitting or inside on the floor, it’s a good idea anytime the stove needs to stay off. This takes us to Geneva, which…

Hello, Sunday.

“Summers are meant for standing around in crowds and sweating.”

Those words I mumbled under my breath after standing in the 95F heat yesterday watching the America’s Cup.  Don’t get me wrong, it was fun and interesting, but those of you that know me know that my heat threshold goes up to 80F.  Yesterday was way out of my comfort zone. Like, WAY.

Much of the same today, but with 20 degrees less, and hopefully just a tad more wind. Go Team USA!

Let’s talk about things that are not politics or the Stanford swimmer case because we all know that no good can come of either of those discussions.  Let’s think happier, or at least other thoughts:

You all know I’m obsessed with DWTS and while it was a close race between Bindi Irwin and Nick Carter last season, Bindi deservingly won it all. Seems she continues to be sweetly cheeky.

Being a girl is hard.

No one had to tell this girl to beat to her own drum, and she’s the most awesome for it.

Mom, I’m fine. Anyone who has ever left home to spread his or her wings knows that this phrase is uttered often and sometimes with attitude. This kid wins the award for the best way to ease his mom’s worry, and maybe give her a heart attack along the way.

Consent, explained in Britspeak.

I love maps and used them long after they stopped being cool, or replace by Google maps.  I also keep those from trips past, and here’s why.

Science, ya’ll, is amazing.  Man lives 555 days without a heart and is around to tell the tale.

Ok, Oprah. Your move.

Reason 2,058 why dating today can be the worst.

This is amazing, and worth the whole watch. We really are all just one big family, so let’s treat each other that way!

Now let’s all grab some sangria and get to that porch sittin’.

Have a great week!

Written once the sweat was gone.
