Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. This week. I don’t even know where it went! I guess the same could be said for July.  August hits us tomorrow and can I admit that I’m not sad about it?  Maybe a little, but it’s been ungodly hot and humid, which…

Outdated a bit, but the sentiment is the same.

Hello, Sunday.

I just got back from playing tennis, and I’m not lying when I say the temperature rose 15 degrees in an hour. Like, 75F to 90F. By ten o’clock.  So that’s how it’s going here.

It made me smile a little though as I remembered The Big Buddha, who use to go play every Saturday and/or Sunday when I was growing up in Miami. No doubt to beat the heat, he’d dash off to the courts well before Little Buddha and I awoke.  When we did, he’d just be coming home, sweat drenching his tennis whites (yup, he still wore those whites, and those awesome short-shorts from the 70s), sporting salty skin and five ‘o’ clock stubble, and wanting nothing more than to give us each a big, gross, sweaty hug and kiss, then pretending to be offended when we pushed him away. He won anyway, making us gross and sweaty, too.

Anyway, it’s days like these that make me long for the day when jumping into a nice cold pool was as easy as going out back.

Enough of that. Back to business.  The news.  Well, the election season still isn’t freaking over, but at least this week’s conventions is a sign that this whole unpleasant business will be over soon.   Did anything else happen this week? I don’t know.  Here are a few things that I did manage to remember:

Pokemon Go. I refuse, but these children hoping to be found is heart-crushing.

Some people have all the creativity.  Stepping up a love of books.

The Olympics start this week (yay!), but let’s all pray that it stays safe.

Who doesn’t love a hug?  Free ones!  I for one could use more hugs in my life.

Why do people think social media is blanket permission to be so mean?? #LoveforLeslie

This is an over exaggeration, but I think an accurate idea that sometimes, science really doesn’t know everything.

However, sometimes it does. Science y’all. The “falling while sleeping” phenomenon explained.

RIP, Gary Marshall. Thank you for giving us all so many happy days.

I think we all need a lot of these in what remains of this summer.

I don’t know what rock I’ve been sitting under, but I just watched Death Comes to Pemberley last night and can I just say I loved it?  If you love P&P, watch it. I know you’ve love it, too.

And finally, Kettle Corn and I started a little instagram project. If you’re in Chicago, check it out here (and follow us, puhleese).

Ok, that’s all I’ve got for you.  What did you read this week that made you go hmmm?

Have a great week!

Written over iced coffee.

Beef & Sweet Potato Stir-Fry

Hello, Sunday.

Just when we thought this week might be better than last, Nice and then Turkey had to go and happen.  And of course, this election season is still hanging over all our heads, and being shoved in all of our faces. Make it stop! Make it all stop!

Weekending over here has been pretty busy, but the thunderstorms predicted for my hometown today may have forced a slow down a bit. I hope it clears up; there is BBQ out there with my name on it, waiting to be eaten.

The week got away from me a bit since I was fighting off…something…earlier this week but we all get by with a little help from my friends, and some interesting things they found to read. Here they are:

Can you find this lady’s phone? I cheated and asked Yam, because she’s got more patience than I.

Necessity is the mother of invention. Enter SheepCam.

Why do we in this country make nursing new babies so hard??

Rather than some notional idea of perfect complementarity, it is the capacity to tolerate differences with generosity that is the true marker of the “not overly wrong” person. Why we all marry the wrong person.

#BlackLivesMatter. Another side of that story.

In a time of so much pain, let’s be good to ourselves and allow ourselves to grieve properly and check our expectations.

Genius parents.  #Potterhead4EvR

This land is your land, this land is my land. Remember that, GOP.

Brit-Brit released a new song.  ICYMI.  #1Fan

After so many years of forcing my achy body through killer workouts, this doesn’t surprise me in the least.  Science says, chill out a bit.

Jennifer Aniston, you go girl

All of these summer desserts though…

Fried chicken has been on my radar lately. Someone come make me this? TIA.

And finally, because we should start the week with good feels, Success for Fred.

Let’s all have a great week!

Hello, Sunday.

There are no funny words about this week, so I won’t even try. Only sad ones, angry ones, hopeless ones.  There are no words that can comfort the breaking heart of this country, but I looked to my favorites to at least try.

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today… Aha-ah…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace… You, ..

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world… You, ..

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one.

-John Lennon

Let’s dream, shall we?
