Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

It’s been a crazy few weeks full of get-togethers, brunches, happy hours and those sort of things, and fortunately/unfortunately it’s not looking to slow down on my end until…December? Sounds about right. I hate that I’m the person that always says, “I’m so busy,” but unavoidable it is 90% of the time.  And then the World Series happened and came to Chicago and it seemed…anti-patriotic (?) as a Chicago north sider to not get into the hype, so throw in game watches this weekend and Crawley has been wondering if I do actually still live in the house. Poor guy, left to snuggle on the couch alone.

Despite the extra hours in front of the television for The Series, the upside is I feel less guilty about eating bar food and french fries because, after all, it’s for a cause.  Additionally, the news has pretty much been glossing over all the normal horrible things it reports on a daily basis.  It’s more like, “The Cubs are gearing up to win game 5, oh and there were some shootings in Old Town and a few armed robberies in Lincoln Park, but, hey, THE CUBS ARE STILL IN THE WORLD SERIES.”  It’s a welcome relief.  If you’re from Chicago, you get it. If you’re not, believe me that the nightly news is really that sad and depressing on the reg.

Per usual, the internet had some interesting things to say this week. I’m ignoring the fact that the election is so close we can all taste it, and are all so ready to put this unpleasant business behind us.  Let’s discuss other things, like these:

First and most importantly, it’s almost time for Gilmore. Did you see this yet?  I am so gonna laugh-cry on the 25th.  Pack the mallomars, and the tissues.

Related:  The townspeople of Stars’ Hallow IRL.

Another mass extinction is coming…and we caused it. But there’s still time to fix it.

Related: Here’s a start on how.

It’s apple season, in case you forgot.

The tiniest superheroes.  Adorable.

The Queen Offers to Restore British Rule in light of the 2016 election. Ok, not really. Ahh, satire.

Who doesn’t love Tom Hanks?  And BIG?  I think every kid from the 80’s wished for a Zoltar machine.

Girl power.  Can anyone close the pay gap?

All of these circumstances are just so sad: South Korean, adopted at age 3, being deported nearly 40 years later.

Just interesting. GMOs, maybe not as cracked up to be as we thought.

The romance of Halloween? Yup, it used to be a thing.

Related:  Who’s dressing up tomorrow? Here’s a weird/interesting idea and approach.  Maybe don’t do all this exactly…as for me, I’m going as Gryffindor for the sixth or so time (not in a row).  Harry Potter never goes out of fashion.

Have a great, spooktacular week!

  • The news commentary was 100% spot on! “Hi – CUBS WIN – shootings and other things – DID WE MENTION THE CUBS WON AND WE SHOULD TOTES SHOW YOU BRYANT’S HR AGAIN! ps: cubs won!”

But…Cubs need to win faster in games 6 & 7. I am so tired.

    • Haha. Sad but true. It wasn’t until I was listening to the news this morning that it was apparently a super deadly weekend 🙁
