Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. It was a long week. Did it feel like a long week to anyone else? Time is weird. As summer tends to do, the calendar is filling up faster than I can keep track. A good problem to have for sure after almost…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. How’s everyone this fine day? I’m staring down a pretty big to-do list today but excited to get after it. Yesterday was also quite productive, but my OG plans got derailed by an impromptu decision to paint my closet.  Weird to paint a…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

And wishing all the moms, would-be moms, tragically not moms, animal moms, plant moms and all the “mom” figures of their friend group a very Happy Mother’s Day! Including my own, who ditched her children to celebrate with her best friend in New York. You go, Mom.

As for things going on in Michigan, as much as I love being gone, I really love home. I love my new house, I love my Crawley, I love hosting my friends and I love a lazy afternoon with epic naps and I’ve been basking in that all weekend. I have a few home projects to get done today (I’m stenciling my bathroom – wish me luck!) and some cooking, but I’m settling in for quite a long stretch of being home as the weather warms (finally!).

Coming home from another country is almost as much as a culture shock as going to one, with the good and bad, and honestly landing to the chaos of the Atlanta airport, and then waking up to the SCOTUS news a few days later made me just want to jump on a plane and go back. Or anywhere but here.  What are we even doing? Some things we get right, but so many things we just get so wrong.

Going to share some things related to the above that really resonated with me this week. Read what you will, but you can look forward to more Spain tales and recipes from our trip in the coming weeks!

My Great-Grandpa Killed My Great-Grandma Giving Her An Abortion On Their Kitchen Table. This was horrifying and heartbreaking to read. Are we going back here if Roe is revoked?

Or are we going here?

Do you stack books around your house? There’s a word for that. I used to but just haven’t found a good place to put my stacks in the new place.

If you’re a Jeopardy watcher, what are your thoughts on Mattea? I actually liked her, a lot more than some of the other top champions that have been on of late.

I always fine lists of advice interesting to read- and here’s another gem.  Also, life motto: Efficiency is highly overrated; Goofing off is highly underrated. Regularly scheduled sabbaths, sabbaticals, vacations, breaks, aimless walks and time off are essential for top performance of any kind. The best work ethic requires a good rest ethic. See above comment about epic naps, and see past blog posts for epic vacations.

This was interesting. Also, don’t get me wrong. I actually love my dentist, and good dental health is up there on my list of must-haves in a partner, but a shit dentist literally almost killed my mom with his shit practices.  I’m on alert.

The food quality in the US is always a topic that gets me fired up, and I can afford to spend money on higher quality food. Is there a way to bring it back to its heathier roots?

If you need a last minute Mother’s Day treat, I made this cake again yesterday and it’s such a win.  No mixer required.

Or, if breakfast in bed is more your thing, how about just some perfectly scrambled eggs (lobster optional)?

That’s it! Have a great week!

Hello, Sunday. I feel like it was weird week. Was it for you, too? A weird week with weird vibes with a long to do list but also, not enough to do? That’s not true at all, but I feel like that’s how I felt…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. Hello, April! It’s been a week of getting settled into a new month- and I’m not sure about you, but I’m thankful for that. March was rough and so I’m looking into the new month with a renewed hope and optimism- and with…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

Hello from my new home! I’m finally moved in and living here full time with me and Crawley and our little fur friend Fig while Mom is on assignment out of town. It’s been a ROUGH first week, but after Thursday everything started looking up. We’re no longer living out of boxes and suitcases, all fur residents are eating again, and that is a very good thing!

I’ve been so distracted with LIFE as we know it the last month that I can’t even believe we’re all staring into April.  But my taxes are done, a vacation is less than a month away and I’m ready for warmer weather. Let’s do it!

I admit to not noticing anything more than the boxes peppering my living space the past week but here’s what otherwise caught my eye:

Animals and war. My cats just found moving from one comfortable house to another traumatic. I can’t even imagine. Poor things.

I haven’t watched much of the Jackson confirmation hearings, but what I have read has been disheartening and unsurprising. And this sums up why.

Here’s a weird one. Coffee caramel eggplant upside down cake. You read that right. Who’s going to try it? I might just stick with peach.

The legacy of Madeline Albright.

Treat yo’ self. It’s helping your restaurant more than you think.

Redefining the job, and what it means.

That’s all I’ve got for today, but looking forwarding to some new recipes this week!

Monday Musings

Hello, Monday. I took a much needed quick escape to Chicago this weekend to visit with a good friend, eat some fabulous food, and take mental break from world at large, from work and the packing and moving that has consumed much of my mind…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. It’s been a bit over here but, whew…life.  Besides all the things happening…well, everywhere, my little corner of existence has been crazy. The fam and I were out of town for my uncle’s funeral, stayed to play and work for a bit, and…

Monday Musings

Monday Musings

Hello, Monday.

I’m taking this long weekend to head down to some sunshine. It’s been a week.

In talking to others, it seems I’m not the only one who had a week.  Between work being crazy busy and my upcoming home purchase from afar (I’ll inconveniently be in Florida for my walk through and closing) and getting all of that in order, by Thursday night I turned everything off around 8 pm with a pounding headache and just went to bed.

Saturday renewed my spirit by meeting with good friend and new friends and it was just everything I needed.  Friends really are the most valuable commodity.

I hope you have some good friends to get you out of those weeks that try to break you.

Also I found Wordle. It was time.

Anyway, I hope you have the day off as well (or, an easier day due to others being off).  Here’s what lifted my spirits this week:

How to stock a pantry and freezer so there are always options. My pantry go-to: tuna pasta, OG and kimchi variety.

Now, I’ve never (and will never) have a baby, but this is both funny and horrifying.

Are tastes inherited or acquired? An interesting question indeed. Maybe a little of both?

Do you believe in soul mates? I’m undecided here, but it’s always fun to think about.

My favorite heroine is back! Excelsior!

Um…occupational hazard?

Oh no! God Save the Queen.

Instagram ads almost never get me, but I succumbed to this ombre sweater. I mean, it me.

I feel like it’s coming upon the season just ripe for a lemon drizzle.

I hope you are well! Have a great week.

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. Yesterday was a pretty busy day, so it’s a little bit of a slow start over here this Sunday.  After lunch and a show, we popped by my soon-to-be new house to see how it’s going. I personally think it’s ambitious that it’ll…
