Monday Musings

Hello, Monday. I spent a long weekend working/playing with Lettuce in Virginia, in a sort of au revoir before she heads off for a new job in Geneva. On that note, many a Swiss adventure coming soon. Anyway, we did as we do, eating, laughing.…

Monday Musings

Hello, Monday. The first long weekend of summer! Let’s do it. Summer was here, and then it sort of morphed back into fall and/or spring over the last three days. But at 70 degrees, I’ll take it! The weekend ended up being busier than I…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

You know, I took Monday and Tuesday this week off, and the rest of the week felt like the longest week! Don’t you just hate it when that happens? Anyway, I took yesterday to not do the post-vacation, adult to-do list things that must be done today, but rather to enjoy time with family and friends in a way that I haven’t done since last summer. I’m pretty sure I haven’t laughed that hard since then, and I can’t wait to do it more now that the weather is getting nicer and we’re all waving our vaccine cards freely.

I hope you had a few belly laughs this weekend, even if it was just your cat or dog that was giving them to you.  We take what we can get, ya know?

Also, I watched Notting Hill Friday night for the first time in forever and you know I’m now the age of Hugh Grant in that movie? And also that’s weird because that movie came out my first year in college? Where does the time gooooooo?

Anyway, here we go with some readings for your Sunday. Enjoy!

This was…wow. Be a Lady, they said.

What happened to the “going out top”? As a girl of a certain age – I so feel this. An interesting look at my college-era fashion trend.

I feel so deeply for anyone that loses a pet. RIP, Bo.

Women who said no to motherhood– an interesting read.

I didn’t realize how much I needed a break until I took one. Why we all feel tired all the time.

I love taking cooking classes, but will they ever be the same again?

For those of you itching to goooo: Europe’s guide to reopening summer travel.

Not ready to travel yet? Adding some of these reads to my summer list to go without going.

And I leave you with the power of poo.

Have a good week!

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. Thank you for excusing my absence this past week – I’ve been taking a much needed, long-awaited trip down to Disney for some R&R. It’s a trip that has been canceled three times in the past year and we all have been craving…

Monday Musings

Hello, Monday. I’m a day late with my somethings and musings because I got my second dose on Saturday and man, what a doozy. I spent yesterday all on the couch, and on Saturday night when I normally regale you with my weekly wit, I…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

How are you all? I’m pretty good! I think the air of spring has lifted my spirits: I get vaccine #2 in a week, will be off on a nice vacation in two. Tennis is creeping its way back into my weekly routine.  In two words: hope and normalcy.

I hope that you’ve got a little bit of that creeping into your life as well. That, and some cake, perhaps. With your feet up. As you can see, my fur-friend and I had ours up for a good part of yesterday and it was glorious.

Let’s get on with it- readings for your amusement.

Speaking of cake, I keep eying this one and haven’t made it yet. I need an excuse. Someone want to come over?

Reminder: if you don’t ask, the answer is no.

Warning: low rise jeans are indeed back.  Ironically, I actually feel fit enough to wear them now, compared to the first time around. Still- NO.

The virtues of a good to-do list.

My still-single girlfriends talk about this more than perhaps we should, but when The Golden Girls are the standard- what’s so bad about that?

We’ve heard a lot about mRNA technology- here’s how it’s going to change the world.

The feel good story we all need.

Should we put chips back in chocolate chip cookies? My go-to recipe is handcut chunks and I’m sticking to it.

Sad about Prince Philip. The NYT, as always, writes a lovely obit.

Also, reminder about this awesome mango chicken salad. I always forget about it, and really need to be making it on the reg.

That’s it. Have a great week!

Hello, Sunday. Happy Easter! I hope your weekend has been sunny and bright. Yesterday I did the normal weekend things: had a later than usual morning, a sweeter than usual breakfast, a workout and then baked up a storm for some surprise after-Easter sweet treats…

Hello, Sunday. Hey, it’s me! It’s been a while, but I needed you to see this donut. And my post-vax excitement! I had a nice little three day weekend with Friday off. And it was great! I spent Friday with my family, Saturday getting my…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

Well, this was not a good week, and I think the pandemic plus life plus everything else had me ranting like a crazy person in between stints of tears until I hit my wall and just melted. I yelled at my mom. I yelled at my brother. I was angry until I was just too tired to be angry anymore. By Thursday night, I had had enough, and tucked myself in on the couch, hit play on The Sound of Music, and let Julie Andrews lull me to calm and by Friday was feeling a little bit more like my normally -centered self.

Yesterday the sun was shining and in its beauty, I went out with Ham to tennis for the first hit of the season. I needed it so badly- the tennis, the sun, the outdoors and the friendship.  With the promise of the vaccine a week or so away, I’m letting the bits of hope peek in.

The news was bad, as it always is these days. Here’s the light that I could find in the darkness:

I love this, and wonder where else this model would succeed: teach a man to fish…and he’ll build himself a house.

It’s time to embrace The Clothes Chair, or, in my case, The Clothes Couch. No shame in my game.

Interesting- one jab, doing the job.

The RBG collars- and what they meant.

Anti-Asian racism: a great read.

Related, a bit: be like Einstein.

Can money buy happiness? Well, maybe…I do enjoy the little luxuries sometimes.

How the pandemic destroyed work-life balance.

I admit that my times given in my recipes are guestimates. The fallacy of the 30-minute meal.

Are you traveling this summer? If so, here’s some inspo!

I’ve got a recipe for you this week based on my favorite holiday treat and I’m so excited about it!

Wishing you a great week!

Monday Musings

Hello, Monday. Gosh, we lost an hour yesterday but I feel like I’ve been playing catching up with everything the last week. Probably not, but at least that’s how it has felt. The biggest news from my part of the Mitten is that I bought…
