Hello, Sunday.
How gorgeous is this picture? Lettuce, Yam and I have holed ourself up this Columbus Day weekend in Cambridge, Maryland for what is now our annual girls’ weekend spa getaway, and this was our view.
I KNOW.
Living in the middle, while I love it, and yes, we have lakes and beaches, I do sometimes miss the east and the ocean and the sun rising over the Atlantic. The expansive presence I took for granted all those years living in Florida, now only to be enjoyed a few times a year.
What goes on during our girls’ weekend is the perfect amount of nothing. We sleep in, overindulge at breakfast and sit around long after the buffet shuts down, lounge in the hot tub, search out the best places for dinner and laugh more than should be allowed. We hoard the chocolate, and as we get older end up drinking more tea than wine, and consider a 10:30 last call at the hotel bar a successful night out. And make bad movie choices like watching “Born on the 4th of July” before bed. But it’s truly one of my favorite weekends of the year.
I had a busy week leading up to it as I prepared life and work to leave for the weekend, so just a few somethings for your enjoyment:
Starting college applications at 14? I think the idea behind this is noble but…let kids be kids!
Last words. Some of these celebrities made my heart smile, and I hope one day I find the kind of love these couples shared.
Science, ya’ll. Bikinis for turtles. Do you think they’re as self-conscious about it as we are?
Yay for renewable energy! Do you think the U.S. will jump on this bandwagon? It’s a good wagon to be on, methinks.
May the best man win. Prison debate team beats Harvard. And West Point. And Vermont.
I was such a Bridget Jones’ fan in college. Like, the hugest and I can still quote the movie, but I don’t know how I feel about the new movie. Thoughts?
Nobel Peace Prize recipients. All the applause.
My heart breaks. Kevin Corcoran, aka. Arliss from Old Yeller, Francis from Swiss Family Robinson and, my absolute favorite, Moochie Daniels from The Shaggy Dog, dies of cancer. I think I can safely say this was my first childhood TV crush.
More shootings. What is there to even say? What an we even do? People has an idea.
Making friends over 30. Why is it so hard?
And finally, a brilliant Gilmore Girls analysis. Because we’re all thinking the same things.
Have a good week!

Sounds like you had a glorious time with your girlfriends! I keep telling my husband that I will take him to the east coast one day, I love it.
Seriously, every time I go, I feel compelled to move. Alas, no time soon!
First – that sounds like the most amazing weekend, ever! And so nice that the group of you can meet in one place for 3 days of fun and pampering every year.
Second – interesting to read the article about adult friendships after reading about your weekend plans; nice pairing. The article is great; and it is so true, making friends after University or the first year of a new job is so very difficult.
Third – this Gilmore Girls post is fantastic! GG4life; but seriously, eat the burger! Obvs Jess all the way.
Totally Team Jess. Also, it is hard to meet friends out of school, and most of the friends that I’ve made here in Chicago are through school connections. I am definitely so so lucky.
