Outdated a bit, but the sentiment is the same.
Hello, Sunday.
I just got back from playing tennis, and I’m not lying when I say the temperature rose 15 degrees in an hour. Like, 75F to 90F. By ten o’clock. So that’s how it’s going here.
It made me smile a little though as I remembered The Big Buddha, who use to go play every Saturday and/or Sunday when I was growing up in Miami. No doubt to beat the heat, he’d dash off to the courts well before Little Buddha and I awoke. When we did, he’d just be coming home, sweat drenching his tennis whites (yup, he still wore those whites, and those awesome short-shorts from the 70s), sporting salty skin and five ‘o’ clock stubble, and wanting nothing more than to give us each a big, gross, sweaty hug and kiss, then pretending to be offended when we pushed him away. He won anyway, making us gross and sweaty, too.
Anyway, it’s days like these that make me long for the day when jumping into a nice cold pool was as easy as going out back.
Enough of that. Back to business. The news. Well, the election season still isn’t freaking over, but at least this week’s conventions is a sign that this whole unpleasant business will be over soon. Did anything else happen this week? I don’t know. Here are a few things that I did manage to remember:
Pokemon Go. I refuse, but these children hoping to be found is heart-crushing.
Some people have all the creativity. Stepping up a love of books.
The Olympics start this week (yay!), but let’s all pray that it stays safe.
Who doesn’t love a hug? Free ones! I for one could use more hugs in my life.
Why do people think social media is blanket permission to be so mean?? #LoveforLeslie
This is an over exaggeration, but I think an accurate idea that sometimes, science really doesn’t know everything.
However, sometimes it does. Science y’all. The “falling while sleeping” phenomenon explained.
RIP, Gary Marshall. Thank you for giving us all so many happy days.
I think we all need a lot of these in what remains of this summer.
I don’t know what rock I’ve been sitting under, but I just watched Death Comes to Pemberley last night and can I just say I loved it? If you love P&P, watch it. I know you’ve love it, too.
And finally, Kettle Corn and I started a little instagram project. If you’re in Chicago, check it out here (and follow us, puhleese).
Ok, that’s all I’ve got for you. What did you read this week that made you go hmmm?
Have a great week!
Written over iced coffee.
I walked right in to some dumb-ass kid as he stopped abruptly before walking into the mall yesterday morning because of Pokemon GO. MOOOOOVE, child. Not pleased.
Stupid!
