Flowers in Saigon, Vietnam

Flowers in Saigon, Vietnam

We were lucky enough to plan our trip to Vietnam just before the New Year when the entire country was prepping their homes, meaning that there were flowers, flowers everywhere!

Much like December for us here in the States, vendors were lined up at the ready at the flower shop, showcasing their prettiest blooms.

He’s quite the salesman!

Tucked into the most innocuous corner of Saigon…one that I’d be unlikely to find again.

I felt much like I was Eliza Doolittle wandering around Covent Garden.

Good thing I was traveling and not able to buy anything because, while I’m not one to usually ooh and ahh over flowers and botanical gardens, this was truly making me fall in love!

Red or yellow?

Packaged and ready for transport!

And of course, all this browsing makes one ready to stop for a snack.

Gotta love street food.

If you find yourself in Saigon around the same time, no need to go searching down alleyways because there were quite a few flower festivals about, open to the public, and very hard to miss.

The whole park was meticulously staged and organized, showing us all every kind of flower, plant or tree we could imagine.

The Bonsais were truly works of art, complete with accessories.

Tourists and families alike couldn’t help but seize the surrounds for family portraits.

And, as we discovered everywhere throughout the country, food was ever-present.

And ever-interesting! Scorpion, anyone?

I passed on that local delicacy, but left feeling just…happy. Flowers will do that to a girl.

Good luck in the new year! The Year of the Dog is abloom!
