‘Tis the season to eat all the bread. Who’s with me?! Yeah? Let’s start with Irish Soda Bread.
It was bad enough to spend 12 days abroad eating nothing but the freshest bread and creamiest butter at every meal, but then to come home and have it be hovering around those 50 and 60 degree temps, well…fire up the oven.
I’ve been on a healthy diet of brown bread since I got back but I’m thinking that now I need to alternate it with this recipe for Irish soda bread, a family recipe courtesy of my friend, Marjoram, one that has been passed down from a few generations and now is getting passed on to you.
I can’t believe I haven’t made soda bread for ya’ll yet (though I did make these righteous GF soda bread muffins…). Shame on me!
It’s quick one to throw together (you may have seen me do so on the Insta-stories this weekend!) and it is all good, said, done and ready to slather with the best butter (get the good stuff- I’m a fan of Kerrygold) in around an hour. This one is sweet, and reminds of a very specific type of biscuit that I used to eat as a kid summering in Canada. I’m not sure why it reminds me of that, but there it is.
Perfect for a lazy weekend morning or a touching housewarming/hey I hear you’re sick/ thanks for being my friend sort of deal or really, just because, this will be your go-to I need to have bread now recipe.
You can add raisins if that’s your thing, but you all know that they’re not mine.
But do yourself a favor and also get yourself some good jam. You know what I’m talking about.
