Hello, Sunday.
Fall is here! Like, really here. Like, boots and sweatshirts and cozy socks and all those sorts of lovely things. I’ve been waiting, somewhat impatiently for it to arrive, and finally, I can embrace it.
Mom and I had a girls’ day out yesterday to downtown, where we ate fabulous burgers, drank delicious beers and saw the most wonderful play. Come From Away, if you don’t know, is the story of Gander, Newfoundland, who took in 7,000 ‘plane people’ for five days after 9/11. It tells the stories of the townspeople and the passengers, and shows the small glimpse of hope and humanity that shined through on that very dark day. I laughed one moment, and had tears streaming down my face the next and when the band gave their final, heel-tapping bow, the whole theatre was on its feet, and a lump rose up in my throat. Terrible that such a tragedy is what it takes to bring out the best in people, but in the world we live in today, it was a nice reminder that it still does exist out there, somewhere. I was probably one of my top favorites ever, and should you ever have a chance to see it, please do go. I can’t imagine anyone would advise against it.
Off my soapbox, let’s take a look at the world we live in now, grim as it might oftentimes be.
Asian hot sauces, explained. I have at least….four of these in my fridge right now.
It’s okay to be unambitious. You know, I’ve always said this about my job. I want a job that will allow me to live my life, and I’ve always been able to find that. If I can live at the top of my life, it’s better, to me, than being at the top of my job. Ya get it?
I will admit to cheering, sometimes, in workout class. I’m working on this issue by…training to be a fitness instructor, starting next week.
How to adjust your plans so that you actually keep them (or WANT to keep them). Guilty of these sorts of issues, and I find this list to be v. helpful.
Way to encourage others not to reach for the top. What?
The hidden stress of growing up a child of immigrants. I can say that I’m lucky enough to not have had this experience, but just another side of what we see on the news these days.
Because I’m such a fangirl, I do own Kate Middleton’s classic white trainers, so I found this helpful and thought you might, too, as we pack them in for the season. How to clean white sneakers.
A Gross Recipe is an expression of you: of the uniquely briny, spicy, bland, mushy, crunchy things at the core of you, in concentrations that the average person would find actively off-putting. I have to think about this one, but what’s your gross recipe?
Seems like it’s a good thing I get Crawley cuddles at night!
If you follow me on the Insta, this is my #cookinginpajamas recipe from this week: Mom’s chunky beef chili. ‘Tis the season!
Also, make these pumpkin cookies, k?
Have a great week!
