Hello!
I’m finally feeling un-vacationed and back to normal after my New England road trip with Ham. I was so beat that I actually half-wrote a Monday Musings and then fell asleep before I sent it. Whoops.
Anyway, rested and more with-it, it’s time to tell the travel tales. First up, first stop, was Kennebunkport, Maine.
I should say first stop. First stop, after flying through Boston Logan was the most lovely little cafe/bakery for lunch on our way to Kennebunkport. If you’re making the drive northeast from Boston, I’d highly suggest stopping at Nancy’s Marshview Cafe & Bakery. It was Ham’s favorite meal stop of the trip. Our first stop, too! Definitely get a biscuit if you go!
We arrive in Kennebunkport, bellies full and ready for adventure. We didn’t have a very large to-do list written for the trip in general, and that included our city stops. Our goal was to wander, and that we did pretty successfully.
Immediately drawn to the water, we parked the car and set out for a walk. Talking in the views that are very different than those in our own backyard.
Those houses! We couldn’t get over the charm of New England architecture. We marveled at it at every stop.
Our wanderings actually took us to one of the “must see” things on many a Kennbunkport to-do list. Happy accident!
St. Anne’s Episcopal church is perfectly situated looking over the water. With an outdoor alter just at the cliff’s edge.
I do love a good stone chapel.
We also gawked a little at the large private residences surrounding the chapel. Lucky ducks!
After that, we browsed through Dock Square, where many a shop beckoned to sell us artifacts genuine and not so genuine.
We did fall victim to a lovely little olive oil/vinegar store and its friendly and helpful proprietors.
Tasting all the oil and vinegar combos made us a bit hungry, so we popped down the street for some ice cream and a drink before heading to dinner.
Dinner on the docks! The Clam Shack was recommended by friends and the touristy listicle alike, so I just had to stop to get my first, but not last, lobster roll of the trip.
We were only in town for a day before heading up north but I’d say that it was well worth the tasty stopover.
