The #MASSivelyAweomeMaineRhodeTrip story continues as we head north. We were dedicating the front half of our trip to the active stuff and for a few days hiking up in Acadia National Park.
We left Kennebunkport early Sunday morning, and happened upon the perfect breakfast spot in Portland on our way up north, fueling the morning drive and our short afternoon hike in the most Maine way.
Lobster benny for me.
Lemon french toast with Maine blueberries for my travel companion.
And the best latte of the trip to accompany the solids.
After breakfast, we had another three hours of driving, the soundtrack of which was the Champagne Supernova Pandora Station. If you are in the almost- or just over- 40 age range, you’ll appreciate our tune selection.
Heeding the warnings of overcrowded national parks, we bough weeklong passes for ourselves, parked at the visitor’s center and used the handy-dandy park transport Island Explorer to get us to the trailhead. Parking throughout the park is nuts, so I highly recommend taking the bus.
Since we didn’t know how we’d be feeling or how long it would take us to get to Bar Harbor, we opted for the short but scenic easy Ocean Path Trail to take in our sea views before our harder hike the next day.
The views did not disappoint.
The early part of the trail was a bit crowded, full of families not wanting to go too far. We were there for the long haul and made it all the way to Otter Point. Well, worth the extra steps.
My tree-hugging self was a happy camper!
And couldn’t help but ruin the view with a silly pose.
All in a day’s work, we settled in for the night in Bar Harbor. Stopping for ice cream, of course.
Vietnamese coffee for me, thanks.
Further taking in the ocean views and charming town, excited for our early morning hike the next day.
Tomorrow, we summit!
