Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

Well, Christmas is over. Despite the fact that I feel like we’ve been in the Christmas season for over two months, it was hard for me to get in the spirit or in the swing of it. Our decorations went up later than usual, we were lackluster about holiday baking and some of my favorite movies went unwatched.  The twenty-twenty effect, I suppose, bleeding over into twenty-twenty one.

However, I got the most surprising email yesterday about my Mazariners. Turns out that a reader knew the author of the recipe, the wife of an old work colleague from years ago, and asked me for her updated contact information. It was such a nice email, and it was a reminder the the world is so very small and that we all have more in common than we think.  A good sentiment for 2022.

Here is at least, some good sentiment for your Sunday. Enjoy your family, presents and leftovers and I hope you have a few more days of rest and relaxation before the new year!

We used to have tried and true recipes that we ate every Christmas, but as the holidays changed, so has our menu. However, for some, Chinese always wins. How Chinese Restaurants Conquered Christmas.

How some tried and true family recipes are corporate concoctions. I will put it out there that, as far as I know, the family recipes I’ve posted here are true to my family: those that Mom and I had to translate out lists of ingredients and and a few generations of memories to come up with those that you see here.  And that’s why they are some of the best.

“Leisure is not there for the sake of work.” Leisure is doing things for their own sake, to pursue what one wants. We should fight the urge to reduce it to a productivity hack. As we’re stepping into the new year, let’s think about what type of year we want it to be.

Need a laugh? This bit about cats and dogs is SO real.

I know a lot of us are looking back on 2021 to have a look-see. And while I know the blog has suffered in the recipe department due to lack of inspiration, this ribollita was one of my favorite favorites.

Looking to mix things up in the new year? The Swedish tradition of “Little Saturday” sounds like a lovely way to get a little mid-week motivation!

For those of you wanting to kick off the new year with a new workout routine, here’s an invite to try 60-days for free with Peloton!  I love the workouts and community so much, I just want to share it with you. No bike required! And it turns out physical activity + social interaction is good for the body, good for the soul.

That’s all I’ve got. Have a wonderful week!
