Welcome to Alaska!
Last year I learned that our regional work conference site was in Anchorage and immediately I decided that I want to go to there.
So I did.
V and I tacked on an extra few days before the conference started to explore just a tiny part of what is the largest state. And none of it disappointed.
Our journey started in Anchorage, where we quickly hopped in the car and drove southbound to get into the great wilds.
And wilds they were.
There were nothing but view upon views, making us want to stop every five minutes for a picture that would pale in comparison to the real thing.
Our final destination was Seward, and a boat tour through the Kenai Fjords National Park.
Because the weather was meh the first day, and we had another to spare, we pushed our boat ride for the next day and used Day 1 to explore the town.
Stopping time and again to take in the adorable details along the first mile of the Iditarod Trail.
And the rich history of this tiny town on Resurrection Bay.
Did you know that Seward is the mural capital of Alaska? There’s a walking tour for that, too, that will take you around town.
I recommend stopping at the Vistor’s Center, as well as the Seward Community Library & Museum, where you can watch a super interesting documentary on the 1964 earthquake that destroyed the town.
We managed to avoid any rain and even squeezed in a quick hike at Exit Glacier before settling in and preparing ourselves for our Fjord adventures.
The next day, the weather was looking fine and we set said on our boat to see some glaciers.
And look for some furry and not so furry friends.
It didn’t’ take long before we were amongst the eagles, seals, bears, otters and porpoises.
All out just enjoying the view.
And what a view!
Not gonna lie- it did give off some Titanic vibes.
I’ll never let go, Jack.
The waters were a bit rough at time, and despite all my best efforts and preventatives, I did end up with breakfast, overboard.
And at the end of the day, it all came up rainbows.
On to Denali!
