Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

Well, March definitely came in like a lion in my house. I came back from my California adventures with a cold. I suspect it came from either the snotty kid sitting next to me on my flight or the cold and wet temperatures that befell us at Disneyland. Either way, it’s been a rough week.

I can’t complain really, since my immune system has been holding strong on me for over a year. It was time.

Now that I’m on the mend, I’m looking forward to all the exciting and delicious things happening this month, and eyeing a quick trip to London at the end of it for Easter.  Good things, all.

Let’s see what caught my eye this week:

With so much bad in the world, it’s heartwarming to see stories of good. And selfless good deeds (which, despite the feelings of one Pheobe Buffay, do exist).  And paying it forward.

I feel this. Does anyone else. Your cloud storage is FULL.

I love a good list and as a hopeless romantic I am totally someone that for years has gotten on board with TV couples, rooting for them to succeed and my own heart breaking when they don’t. I agree with a lot of these but I think Booth/Brennan from Bones and Donna/Harvey from Suits were definitely omissions (also showing my own bias for procedural dramedies).

The eclipse is coming! My friend V and I already have our watch spot plotted – we’re heading to Toledo for the day where the view of this phenomena should be perfecto.  If you’re lucky, you could find yourself on this flight. Are you in the zone?

It’s still hot chocolate season in these parts and I do love a good one – and the ritual of it.  I’ve got a few choices here on the site should you be in the mood.

As summer pro tennis is about to get lit, any fans out there will love this ditty.

This is the Sunday we all lose sleep. Is springing forward a tradition we should keep? Apparently only 1/3 of the world’s nations do it. Here’s why the US does

I am so out of touch that I didn’t even know this is a thing. Why on God’s green Earth would you dare ask the internet “how old do I look?”  Asking for trouble for sure – simmer down now.

In light of International Women’s Day, let’s take a sec to appreciate how in 2023, girls truly ran the world.  Taylor. Beyonce. Barbie.  The economic power women hold is staggering- but why aren’t we taken seriously? I loved this week’s podcast by one of my faves- it’s worth a listen: Women in Pop Culture Saved the Economy—Why Are They Still the Punchline?

That’s all folks. Have a great week!

Monday Musings

Monday Musings

Hello, Monday.

How are you?

Crawley is definitely giving us all Monday-face.

I hope you’re all having a great start to your week. My weekend was quite busy – errands and cleaning and the boring stuff- and also game night and birthday brunches and cake (recipe, coming this week!) and other fun stuff. A good weekend, says I.

I’m heading to California at the end of the week for some play and then some work, so pre-trip frenzy will no doubt ensue before then.

BUT, for now, let’s dish on what floated my boat this week.

Are you an overpacker? I actually consider myself quite an excellent packer and usually come home having worn everything or very nearly almost everything I’ve packed, and not-too-often finding myself wishing I had brought more. It may come from the fact that I sort of have pretty much a capsule wardrobe at home, with staples of skinny jeans, striped tshirts and sneaks my go-to for most occasions. If you’re an overpacker, here’s some [pretty grim] psychology as to maybe why you are.

What does old mean anyway

Did you hear about this? I just can’t comprehend how anyone would think handing over $50K in cash would ever be legit?

I’m lucky enough to have a few handfuls of couch friends. After 40, isn’t that what many of our friends become anyway?

AA has more than a few refillery-type shops and they are fab! I do so much food and home goods shopping at these and I hope more pop up! Bonus? That $7 bag of organic oats becomes $3.50 with no plastic.

Speaking of AA, turns out others also think it’s the bees knees. Come visit!

Love fried chicken but don’t love to fry it? Here’s your answer. My mom used to make breaded pork chops all the time when we were kids and we had the unhappy task of battering them up.  In the end- worth it.

My early-80s kin, we ARE the real ones. These are always fun reads.

Oh my gosh, why. Reiteration of the points made in the link above.

Slightly obsessed with the new Netflix show “One Day” but also will probably never or rarely ever watch it again. IYKYK.

That’s it. Have a great week!

Sunday Somethings

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

Some of us have a long weekend here stateside and let me tell you that I NEED it.  The daily grind has been well…daily, and I got the COVID booster which had me on the couch for all of Tuesday.  It’s been some time since I’ve been sick and even though this was “fake” sick and only lasted a day, I can confirm that I continue to be the exact opposite of my strong, independent self any time a bug comes my way.

No one is perfect.

We also had a freak blizzard earlier this week that lasted approximately 55 minutes, just about the length of my the walk I was on when it happened (see photo).  Three hours later, all was melted.

Anyway, I’ll be spending the weekend out with friends, on the tennis court and on the couch. A very good combo and I’m very excited about it. I hope you find some little or big things to get excited about, too.

K, let’s get to it!

Stumbled upon this account on Valentine’s Day and it’s SO CUTE!

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, I bought myself this purse as a treat and I’m in love and already plotting which other color I want.

My day on the couch was a wake up call as to how tight my back has become so I’ve made more of an effort to really stretch it out daily. Here are some good ones that I found.

I’d be a really bad celebrity. Much like my beloved Bridget Jones, I often do seem to let whatever is in my head come out of my mouth without much consideration of the consequences.

Wow, some people have all the balls. How one guy lived rent-free, legally in NYC for years.

Feeling SAD? Let there be light! And other tips to survive the winter. Because we’re only halfway through it.

Did you hear the plague is back? Yup, that one.

Nature is cool.

I feel like I’m up for trying a lot of things, but polar plunging is not one of them.

This week I rediscovered this egg salad and DAMN why don’t I make it more?!

That’s all from me- have a great week!
