Hola desde Espana!
While traveling through Spain the last week, I’m happy to say that each day my Spanish language skillz improve, I get more used to eating dinner at 10 pm, and I’m prepared to go back to the summer temps that await me at home.
Admittedly though, I’m a tired. As I write this, I sit in our hotel lobby, taking an air conditioned break from the pavement pounding from this morning (16,000 steps, 3 hours, no break). The rest of the day involves siesta, a late lunch and the much anticipated wedding of two dear friends – a party that, in true Spanish fashion, is expected to last until the wee hours of tomorrow.
It is the Spanish way, after all.
I can’t wait to tell you all about the last week- what we saw, what we ate and where we went. But first, a few snippets that caught my attention whilst in transit the past few days. Just a few.
As someone who used to really like to try ‘the best restaurants in town,’ as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to prefer the reliability of the smaller shops. I mean, don’t we all know that the holes-in-the-wall are usually the best anyway? The best restaurants in town aren’t ones that anyone else can define for us. They’re built of our memories, our heartbreaks, our highlights. The best restaurants are the ones that mean the most to us, and they won’t be spoon-fed to us in our daily media diets. They’re the ones we arrive at, physically and emotionally, on our own.

It’s sad to think that the next big anniversary of D-Day will pass without the presence of The Greatest Generation. May we never forget their sacrifice and the freedoms it has afforded us.

Hello, Monday.
Thinking of and thankful for all those that served, continue to serve and the sacrifices they and their families make to protect our freedom. Let’s fight to keep them, shall we? We wouldn’t want their sacrifices to go to waste.
I’m enjoying the long weekend, and the emptiness in my hometown that comes from everyone in the state heading “up north’ to cabins or campgrounds to kick off #LakeLife season. It truly is special, and weirdly very regional.
It’s also my last weekend at home before heading off on what seems a long-awaited trip to Spain for my dear friends’ wedding. We’ll do some sightseeing and lots of eating before we dance the night away in a few weeks. I cannot wait!

Soda as a marinade? Apparently. I’ll give anything a try.
