Leeks, black and green olives marry nicely with chicken thighs, sherry and lemon to make this one-pot recipe for Spanish chicken with olives.
Hello, Sunday.
Who’s ready for the Super Bowl?
Well, I’m ready for the food. I’ll be making tortilla soup and giving Ham a sneak peak at my blue-cheese-honeyed walnut-roasted pear ice cream. Don’t scrunch your face at me. Think of your favorite cheese plate and then think of ice cream and then apologize to me for scrunching your face and say thank you for this ice cream that will so enter your consciousness.
Otherwise it’s been a pretty low key weekend. It’s been nice to venture out and about without looking like a mummy wrapped up and covered every which way. I cooked a few things this weekend and the rest of it was/will be spent with family and friends. The best kind of days.
What happened this week? I can’t remember- I guess I blocked it out. Still a few things stayed with me. Here we go:
Another reason to love my best girls.
More lessons from Roald Dahl.
Can you believe the state of our national parks post-shutdown? What the actual eff is wrong with people? Not people, animals! No, animals would never do this.
Things we have done and have mistaken for forward momentum. You know you’re as guilty as I am.
For information: which condiments need to be refrigerated?
Reminder: the world is not all terrible.
Man plants one tree every day, and years later, we have a forest.
Twitter is the best. This week, Peleton takes a hilarious hit.
We have a poke problem.
That’s it.
Have a great week!

Sweet and spicy ground turkey chili has the sweetness of apricots, cinnamon and cloves and the warmth of curry powder to make a truly unique chili.
Hello, Sunday.
Well, we’re still in the very, very cold stages of the year in my neck of the woods, which means that I have a lot of time to cook things, some for now and some for later, taking advantage while I have empty weekends, because we all know that as the year goes on, these vacant winter weekends turn into summer ones that are long on sunlight and somehow short on hours.
You know.
The world spins as does my head watching the news. Do you feel the same way? Hopefully these words make your head do something other than twirl on its axis. Metaphorically, of course.
Also, there is yet another picture of Crawley because as I mentioned before I’m not leaving the house and it’s either pictures of him or…nope, that’s it.
After I cut the cable cord, I missed out on a lot of Top Chef, and so I never saw Ms. Ali’s season, but this is still worth a read. She passed away this past week at the age of 29. Here’s her perspective.
Self-care is a discipline, not an indulgence. It’s true, but doesn’t it feel like one sometimes? And I say this as someone that has no one else to care for on a daily basis than the furry man you see pictured above.
Related to my comment above: In the absence of being someone’s number one, I’ve learned to be nicer to myself. In relation to the last paragraph of this article, I have my go-to also single girls that check in on me every day, and if my email isn’t sent by noon, I get a check in text. So, I guess I am someone’s #1 besides my Mom (love you, Mom!) Still, #SinglePersonLifeTax
I really can talk to a wall, but if you have trouble engaging others in conversations, here are a few tips.
For anyone that follows me on the Insta, you’ve seen that I have eaten eggs no less than…four times this week. If you want to follow along on my egg journey, here are some how-tos on how to cook an egg.
J.Lo is challenging others to do no-sugar, low carbs for 10 days. Confession: This week (M-F) I went on a no dairy-caffeine-sugar cleanse (before J.Lo made it cool because #trendsetter) and you know, I hate to admit that I felt sort of better? The lack of sugar and dairy made me ravenous, and when my five days was up, I gloriously started yesterday with a nice bowl of cereal and big cup of coffee. It’s not a sustainable lifestyle for me because, yo, I love all the food. Still, maybe a nice thing to do one week a month? Hmm. We’ll see.

When evidence says no, and doctors say yes.
What did the shutdown do? Not a damn thing.
Finally, for those of you that wished Willy Wonka (the Gene Wilder version) was true, here’s your chance.
Have a great week!

Hello, Sunday.
Well, we finally got our long overdue snowstorm here in Michigan. The last time we had anything remotely close to this was November, and over the past few weeks when my friends in Chicago and D.C. have been pummeled by Mother Nature, we’ve managed to stay warm (relatively) and dry. This weekend we go ours, with at least 3-4 inches and whipping winds, leaving me confined to my home except for a hike to the grocery and a slightly treacherous drive to tennis.
However, the good news for both of us is that I cooked a lot and I dug into the archives and gave some old recipes new life (all while singing along to the BSBs (#LongLivethe90s). Like, first-year-of-the-blog old. New pictures, new flavors, and better written recipes. Dear God, they needed it. More to come as I reinvent some favorites and bring them into both your and my consciousness.
As for the news, our government is still not doing it’s thing, but thank you to all of you out there that are working for free, and my prayers are with those of you that are anxiously awaiting a paycheck. And thank you to you, too.
Do we have good news? I found some news, some to make you smile, some to make you think:
A bigger life in a smaller city. As someone who made that jump almost two years ago, YES and YES.
Should you Kondo your friendships? I’ve always kept a circle of good eggs, so mine are all here to stay. But, what about you?
The healthiest people in the world don’t go to the gym. I wholly believe this. When I lived abroad I broke my 6-day-a-week gym habit and I came back probably the healthiest I’ve ever been.
We are all part of one race- the human race.
I would TOTALLY start my day like this.

Fascinating. What exactly is glitter? V. Secretive.
Have you seen this floor routine yet? Because it’ll surely make you smile.
That’s it. Have a great week!
