Sunday Somethings

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. It’s fall! Well, something that looks like fall. I’m not sure if the 80s are creeping in later this week, but until they do I’m keeping it real in my cozy socks and the beginnings of fleece everything. I also made my first…

To the Isle of Skye, and Back Again

To the Isle of Skye, and Back Again

Well fed and well rested, we set off for our day on Skye.  It was a good one. There are many stops that one can take, and many directions one can drive. We started out going through Portree, the main town on the Isle, and…

Postcards from the Scottish Highlands

Postcards from the Scottish Highlands

So many pictures can’t describe the beauty of the Scottish Highlands, but hopefully they make an impression.

After getting a glimpse of the eastern side of the country last summer, Mom couldn’t wait to go back and see more, and I was more than happy to oblige. Truth be told, we could have spent our whole twelve days there:  we left many a castle unseen, many a town unvisited, many a moor unexplored.  Another trip for another time, I suppose.

Three days is all we had, but we covered a lot of ground. Leaving Edinburgh bright and early, avoiding massive traffic and easing into my driving wheels, we set off.

I planned this road trip to have us drive a few hours at a time, stopping for tea, views or walks, whatever the route offered us.

Our end goal was the Isle of Skye and per the suggestions of this most fabulous and thorough blog, we took the northern route there and the southern route back. Since our final destination was Glasgow on the west, it worked.

It took us almost the full day to get from Edinburgh to our destination, Kyle of Lochalsh, our home base for our time exploring Skye.  You could do it straight through in a few hours, but we stopped for some tea, scones, castles and a little bit of tomfoolery.

Urquhart Castle, perfectly situated on Loch Ness (yup, that one) and the most glorious weather helped get fully into the spirit of the Highlands.

Of course just miles down the road was another one, more spectacularly situated. Unfortunately the weather took a turn and we hit it just at closing. However, if you make it there, Eileen Donan is surely worth a stop!

Beyond the castles, which seem to be everywhere, the area is dotted with the most charming one-street towns, each boasting a pub and more than a few B&Bs to call home.

We tucked in for dinner at the Plockton Inn and set ourselves up for a good night’s sleep, ready for Skye the next day.

To be continued…

Hello, Sunday! I’m not going to lie that it feels so good to be home, as much as I love love being out and about in the world, I also love lazy weekends, with fall Saturdays that involve meal prep, Crawley time and college football.…

A Day in Edinburgh

A Day in Edinburgh

It’s time to tell a story, and aren’t travel stories just the best ones to tell? This trip, #OurMilesThroughtheIsles, almost didn’t happen. Mom and I had been talking about it, but not yet planning it, since last year.  However, when she got sick in February, this…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

Mom and I are heading home from #OurMilesThroughtheIsles adventures, in tact, but with perhaps a few more grey hairs for each of us. I managed to successfully drive on the left, accident free! Now, for the long day home.

A few nuggets managed to catch my eye despite being disconnected for most of the week. Here we go:

Reminder to all: kindness matters, pass it on.

The magic of Jo Rowling strikes again.

Do you have a go-to travel uniform? I guess I do, and it pretty much involves all sorts of stripes.

Let’s all pick up a book, shall we?

With the U.S. Open this weekend, check out the next up and comer on the court.

That’s all! I’ll see you guys stateside with some travel adventures to share.  Have a great week.

Hello, Sunday. Hello, September! It’s here! And while the weather may not be getting you in the zone just yet, college football no doubt is, so let’s cook up some of Mom’s best chili and get it going. Speaking of Mom, we’re in Scotland at…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

Hello, friends!

I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve been around, but I’ve gotten a bit of normal back before I pack it up again for my trip with Mom later this week. ICYMI, we’re heading to Scotland, where we’ll be driving the Isle of Skye, and to Ireland, where we’ll either being driving the Ring of Kerry or the Dingle Peninsula (we can’t decide- help us!).

Before then, I’m doing my best to keep the house clean, empty the fridge and covertly gather my belongings so that Crawley doesn’t freak out.  Gah, I miss him so much when I’m gone.

The news, the news…here’s what struck a chord.

John McCain, rest in peace.

Stories of separated loved ones.  Gosh, seems like we’re hearing that too much too often.

Why you still need to watch what you say on social media. And maybe, a reminder to have a little class.

Did anyone see Crazy Rich Asians and feel a little inadequate? Well, here’s how to feel richer and fancier without spending any more money (for the record, I did not feel inadequate after I saw it, but I did love it!).

Flight get cancelled? Here’s what you SHOULD get.

America sucks at summer vacation. Yes, we do. How can we fix it?

Don’t get your hopes up is the dating mantra for 2018, and…yeah.

As Nike said perfectly, you can take the superhero out of her costume, but you can never take away her superpowers.

Hey, summer’s almost over, and if you haven’t had s’mores yet, here’s a grown-up version!

Have you taken my survey yet? Please do!

That’s it. Have a great week!

Hey guys. Thanks for being patient with me during the last month. It’s been a crazy whirlwind of life and sometimes, you all draw the short straw. But, now that life has returned to some semblance of calm and normal, food will once again come…
