How to Throw a Picnic, the FancyPants Way

How to Throw a Picnic, the FancyPants Way

A picnic today because it’s summer and that is what we should all be doing, at least once this season. Outside weather permitting or inside on the floor, it’s a good idea anytime the stove needs to stay off. This takes us to Geneva, which…

Sunday Somethings

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. “Summers are meant for standing around in crowds and sweating.” Those words I mumbled under my breath after standing in the 95F heat yesterday watching the America’s Cup.  Don’t get me wrong, it was fun and interesting, but those of you that know…

Buckwheat Crepes

Buckwheat Crepes

We arrived in Paris ready for fun. We had three days to pack it all in- the museums, the gardens – and we did our darnedest and managed to hit them all.  Tired though we were, smiles 90% of the time. More so after eating some chicken & vegetable buckwheat crepes.

This red sangria is likely the booziest version of this classic Spanish cocktail that you’ll ever try- with a curated mix of alcohols and fruits, it may just be your new summer patio accessory.

Stewed onions, tomatoes and peppers make up this traditional Hungarian lecsó, the perfect nod to summer’s bounties and easy to make.

Peace, a warning sign not often heeded in this Chi-town of mine. Maybe someday.

Hello, Sunday.

Happy weekending folks.  Often times they are filled with too many chores, not enough fun and less rest than a weekend mandates. I hope yours was filled with just a few chores, a lot of fun, and lots of sleep. My feline friend let me sleep in yesterday and really, I felt like I was King of the World. No, Queen of it.

I’ve been enjoying my hop down memory lane so far, and it’s going to continue this week with Hungary, Spain and France. Good eats, great stories.

Speaking of stories, these ones were something, and they are not about horrid politics:

Waste not, want not.  Italy is taking a stand against food waste, and it’s making me rethink my current home practices.

Losing The Greatest Generation, one by one.

The man who drew my childhood.

In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter, by his trade…RIP, Muhammad Ali.  A fascinating life, an interesting read.

“Hey, hey we’re the Monkees!” And they’re back…!

Did you celebrate National Donut Day?  Do you know why?  Let’s learn.

I think we can all agree that the death of Harambe was horrible on all ends, whatever your take on it.  Here is Jane’s.

Compiling my birthday list (August 14th, FYI).

The cost of a stay-at-home parent.  A new perspective.

For the benefit of Mom, because this is what we talk about, my favorite commercials: Rock, Paper, Scissors and Cookie Monster. Smiles, every time.

And finally, because it’s Sunday, we need some animal selfies to get us through the week.

Have a good one!

Still reveling in Parts Unknown.

Sweet Japanese red beans in a creamy frozen custard base

Memorial Day, expectations met. It was hot (HOT), and I zoo-ed, grilled, laughed, hugged, ate and ate some more. The perfect start to summer. And with that, comes ice cream. Actually, frozen custard in this case. The real stuff. Red Bean Frozen Custard to be exact.

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. Hello long weekend. How cool is this picture? These baby birds are recently hatched, hiding in Rutabaga’s bushes.  He snapped this with his phone and I have done nothing to edit it.  Nature is the best, yah?  (Also note that he did not…
