Chasing Waterfalls in Munising

Chasing Waterfalls in Munising

Our photo journey (and my photo journal!) from my trip to the UP isn’t over yet. I’m embracing it because, let’s face it, it might be the only trip I take this year.

While I already regaled you with conquering the falls and the splendor of Pictured Rocks, I have to give a should out to the little town that became our home base for much of our trip, Munising.

Even if you don’t feel like hiking a crazy amount of miles like we did, you can still get your nature fix in a few ways.

Munising and the surrounding area boasts 17 waterfalls!

Some involve a hike, some just a quick jaunt through the neighborhoods. Like, in someone’s backyard!

Can you imagine?

Head to the visitor’s bureau for a map, which will tell you how hard each hike will be, or how accessible each waterfall is.

If getting too into nature isn’t your thing, you can always grab a boat to show you the broad side of Pictured Rocks. Head downtown to the docks to set sail.

We had actually intended to do a boat + kayak tour of the rocks, but bad weather and rocky seas cancelled our trip. We saw some out there the day before and after we were supposed to go and they looked really fun! If you can time it right, I’d suggest booking.

Whatever boat adventure you pick, make sure you book it in advance because otherwise you’ll be sitting on the dock alone, especially since capacity is reduced due to Covid.

Once you’re done hiking and touring around, you might be a bit hungry. Luckily, the locals will keep you well fed.

Pasties, the Yooper staple.

The best ice cream we’ve all had in a very long time. And trust me when we say we’ve done a very thorough taste-test.

Whitefish tacos, available everywhere. These from Duck Pond Eatery were not fried, which was also a bit of a treat!

After a long day on the trails, the beach and boat, there’s nothing like a good sunset to cap off a good day.

And a great trip.
