The Witching Hour, Salem

The Witching Hour, Salem

My travels continue!

Don’t worry, I’ll be batch in the kitchen soon for a farewell tour of my pantry. I’m moving in a little over 5 weeks and I won’t be transporting the contents of my fridge and pantry to my temporary digs at Mom’s. It’ll be fun to see what I come up with to use it all up.

But first, back on the road for a pit stop in Salem. It seems like a random stop, when most road trips down would make a Boston stop. But, been there, done that, and we wanted a bit of history and a bit of a break while I took to remote working for a few days in Massachusetts.

A constant fog settled over Salem for the entirety of our trip, which added to the vibe and spook factor of the city. A city that embraces both its solemn history and witchy weirdness.

Peculiar people, indeed.

After a tasty lunch, we set out to explore a bit before we joined the Witch City Walking Tour.

Like I said, Salem fully embrace all things bewitching.

When it comes to tours, there are loads to choose from. The Witch City Walking was a history tour rather than a ghost tour, and it took us through the Salem witch trials from start to finish.

The Witch House.

With stops along to admire the gorgeous and distinct architecture…and a few 20th century famous sites.

A little Hocus Pocus, perhaps?

We ended at the Salem Witch Trials Memorial, where the last words of the twenty victims greet every guest.

A solemn reminder of how easy it was for society to end up there.

We ended the night with a trek for ice cream in the rain. Ice cream every night is a vacation tradition not worth breaking, whatever the weather.

Before we set off for the Cape the next morning, we hopped over to A & J King for some breakfast.

And bid Salem a foggy farewell.
