Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

What a week, right?  So many not personal but personal losses, ya know?

I spent the weekend so far too busy to sit and think until I sat down to write this. Since there’s nothing like company coming to light a fire under your ass and get your house in shape, I spent yesterday painting the guest bath (finally) and unpacking the last few lingering boxes from the guest room (also, finally). My house looks good and I feel good about it! A few more finishing touches to go.

I hope you are spending the weekend relaxing with loved ones. Here’s what’re about this week:

Like so many of my friends, I was shocked and saddened by the news of Anthony Bourdain. As I saw tribute after tribute from my own friends stream on Instagram and Facebook, I realized how much he affected me, and all of us.  He made us brave. He told us to go places that the world rarely sees but that the world needs to see. He made us look for humanity where the news and the media assure us that there is none. And he did it by eating the best damn food he could find.  So, Tony, wherever you are, thank you.  “TRAVEL CHANGES YOU. AS YOU MOVE THROUGH THIS LIFE AND THIS WORLD YOU CHANGE THINGS SLIGHTLY, YOU LEAVE MARKS BEHIND, HOWEVER SMALL. AND IN RETURN, LIFE – AND TRAVEL – LEAVES MARKS ON YOU. MOST OF THE TIME, THOSE MARKS – ON YOUR BODY OR ON YOUR HEART – ARE BEAUTIFUL. OFTEN, THOUGH, THEY HURT,”…and more lessons learned from Anthony Bourdain.

Related: His first write for the New Yorker.

Also related. Kate Spade.  Another tragedy, but also, a reality check.

Make failure your fuel, and other great life lessons. I guess I thought today was the day to be school on life because I think we might not be doing our best at it sometimes.

I’m not going to lie about how much I dream about this…Why I left the US 20 years ago and am not going back.

Interesting: Underwater lawnmowers are cleaning up India’s rivers. Cool!

A picture is worth 1000 words. So, cool. Lucky us.

Useful: The danger of travel complacency and how to avoid it.

That’s all I’ve got. Wishing you the best week yet!
