My Holiday Cookies

My Holiday Cookies

In a pleasant surprise, I got a text from Fava last night asking me for a no-fuss-but-different holiday cookie suggestion, and it got me thinking about all the goodies that grace our holiday dessert tray year after year, despite the fact that our the number around our table has dwindled over time.

So here for you is a round-up of everything that we WILL make this year, and all the things that I also want to try because clearly, we just don’t have enough to satisfy the three mouths in our household…

Carmel nut crunch, the perfect accompaniment to present wrapping.

Hungarian version of rugelah, always a classic.

Mom’s baklava, much easier than you think to throw together.

Linzer cookies, not as easy as you think to throw together (but, delicious).

Linzer thumbprints, for when you want the originals without the work.

Sugar plums, a new favorite, and the storied dessert of holiday dreams.

Mexican wedding cookies (aka, snowballs), the easiest cookie on this list.

White chocolate raspberry, a colorful addition to any cookie tray.

Salted chocolate chunk, if you need a classic (I made these again last night).

Viennese honey cake, if you need a unique and truly delicious cake.

Peanut brittle, always my dad’s favorite for Christmas.

Gingerbread biscotti, I’m intrigued!

Go forth and bake, and don’t forget that homemade cookies make the best gift.
