Cinnamon Whipped Dalgona Coffee

Cinnamon Whipped Dalgona Coffee

Being at home, I’ve found myself drinking much more than I would normally at work. Morning coffee. Mid-morning hot water. Lunchtime Crystal light. Afternoon Tea.  More hot water. Now, adding something creamy and dreamy to the mix, this cinnamon whipped dalgona coffee.

You may have seen this weird whipped Dalgona coffee floating around on your social pages- it is pretty Insta-worthy, I’ll admit. And while part of me hesitated to put this up because I figured, for some of you, you might think, “been there, seen that,” but then perhaps the other bit of you would have no idea what the hell this is. And for the latter bit, let me enlighten you. For the former, consider the cinnamon twist the next time you indulge.

Is this an indulgence? Not really. Ingredient-wise, it’s no more than instant coffee, milk, water, sugar and ice.  That’s it. However, we all know that we love pretty and interesting looking drinks. It’s why those baristas all have come to hone their foam pouring and flair skills that keep us coming back.

Side note; THIS is a coffee indulgence.

Now, when I first saw this on the net, I didn’t believe it would actually happen. How does whipping sugar, water and coffee work to create what is essentially a coffee meringue? I still can’t answer that, because even though I found myself literally sitting on the couch on Sunday doing nothing but staring out the window, I could not bring myself to use my attention span or brain waves to actually research this issue.

I’m just being honest.

Anyway, trust that it works. And while I’ve seen that people hand beat this ‘meringue’ for twenty minutes, I have no earthy idea why you’d use that elbow grease when you can pull out your hand mixer and it’ll be done in two.  Time and efficiency are key when I’m waiting for coffee.

Initially, I wasn’t into the taste. The whipped coffee itself tasted like…very bitter coffee. HOWEVER, once mixed in with the cold ice milk, it turned into a creamy, dreamy coffee delight. This cinnamon whipped Dalgona coffee might as well be pawned off as a milkshake. I speak the truth.

Cinnamon whipped dalgona coffee comes together with five ingredients and ends up as a creamy, dreamy coffee milkshake-like beverage.

By:

Ingredients
  • 2 TB instant coffee (I used Nescafe)
  • 2 TB granulated sugar
  • 2 TB hot water
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon (or more to taste)
  • 1/2 cup cold milk
  • 3 ice cubes
Directions
  • Step 1 In metal bowl, add the coffee, sugar and water. Using an electric mixer, beat the mixture until it forms stiff peaks., about 90 seconds Alternatively, you can beat this by hand in about 20 minutes. Add the cinnamon and beat until well incorporated.
  • Step 2 To a coffee cup, add the ice and cold milk. Top with the whipped coffee, and serve with a cinnamon stick garnish.
  • Step 3 NB: Use as small a bowl as you can. The bigger the bowl, the harder it will be for the air to whip in effectively.
