Monday Musings

Monday Musings

Hello, Monday.

It was a whirlwind of a weekend here! As I mentioned before, I’m moving in about a month. We all know that moving sucks for a variety of reasons. What may not be the best idea in the world is to plan a weeklong vacation leading up to a move. But, that’s just what I’ve gone and done.

When I say ‘plan,’ I really mean impulse buy an international vacation 7 days before you’re meant to leave. Friday morning sent me to Intrepid’s homepage looking for their Give the World a Shot campaign, only to find myself in the Last Minute Deals section and 8 hours later, I had a trip, a flight and health insurance and I was finding all I could about European COVID entry requirements.

#Thisis40 and that’s how I’m rolling this new decade, apparently.

I booked it with zero regrets and seemingly a lot of built up frustration about being a good girl rule follower who has kept stateside the last 18 months, canceling trip after trip and frankly, I’d had enough.  I still call it a great decision but it brought about a more sudden urgency about packing up my place. Packing = exhausting, and I passed out quickly Saturday night without even busting open my laptop.

I’m feeling good about what I have left to do in the time I have left to do it. Crawley less so- he’s so traumatized by the packing and last week’s trip to the vet he barely wants to come near me. Anyway, let’s sit still and take in this Monday morning together.

Related to the above, if we’re sick of the pandemic, I can’t even imagine the doctors and nurses that have been facing this nightmare up front.  They are not doing well.

Another thing I can’t even fathom? Erasing the last twenty years of my accomplishments.  But, Afghanistan.

In light of this birthday- Nora Ephron’s rules for middle aged happiness.

Tennis news: Roger is out of the US Open. Bracing ourselves for the inevitable.

A week late on this, but if you loved Field of Dreams 20 years ago, I’d encourage a re-watch. Still, so good. James Earl Jones is my favorite.

Do you have a tried and true daily routine? This person’s is intense, but MARVELLOUS (misspell intentional).

Have you ever heard of Angel’s Glow? Pretty cool!

My mom, excellent as she is, never packed a boring sandwich for us as kids. Did I mention she won an award for packing the best lunch? For real. Anyway, if you need sandwich inspo as we roll into the new school year, Epicurious has got you.

URGENT: If you know anyone in Afghanistan that is in danger of losing his or her academic credentials, the University of California can help. See here for more details.

An oldie but goodie I’ve revisited this week. One of my faves!

That’s it! Have a good week!

Also, finally some recipes for you this week. This is a food blog, isn’t it?
