Grapefruit Sage Margarita

Grapefruit Sage Margarita

Cinco de Mayo is just around the corner – and if you’re thinking ahead like I am, I’m putting this Grapefruit Sage Margarita out there for your consideration.

About Cinco de Mayo. It’s another one of those dates that makes me miss my old office. Every year, like on Mardi Gras, my old co-workers and I would go mad with a pot luck. If you’re back in the office and want to do the same, I’ve got a little cheat sheet for you – a menu, as it were.

As fun as it was…we were lacking the margarita department.

Admittedly I’m not a huge fan of cocktails. I like a marg and I like a Moscow mule and a mojito and that’s usually it until I veer towards the wine or beer. But I do love to try new flavors and remember that sage simple syrup from a few weeks ago? Well, that plus some fresh grapefruits that I impulsively bought meant that this drink was pretty much meant to be.

And you know what? Turns out grapefruit + sage was MFEO.

I love grapefruit and think that it lends itself so well to pairing with savory flavors. See here this rosemary grapefruit agua fresca. I mean, when I’m right, I’m right.

Do you trust me yet?

Anyway, because I’m not so great at the cocktails, I don’t have a ton of random mixers lying around so we’re keeping it simple here with three ingredients:  the sage syrup, fresh grapefruit juice and tequila (or a nice smoky mezcal). Equally fresh and simple is this mint margarita in case you’re skeptical about the sage.

Ice is nice so give it a shake rather than a blend. Cheers!
