Sunday Somethings

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. Summer is sizzling all over the country and I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve been staying indoors for most of it, save for morning tennis followed by morning walks. I hate the hot weather- you know this- and the humidity lately has…

Seaside Strolling, Tenby

Seaside Strolling, Tenby

When asked the this-or-that question of whether I’d choose to live by mountains or water, even though it’s reeeeally hard to answer, I’d have to go with water.  I grew up around it, from the Atlantic to the Gulf, to Lake Erie to Lake Michigan…

Salted Caramel Chai Lassi

Salted Caramel Chai Lassi

Before I jump into things and tell you about Wales, I needed to pause and tell you about this salted caramel chai lassi, the first of what I’m sure will be a few vacation recreations from the trip.

Monday Musings

Monday Musings

Hello, Monday. Whew, still dragging myself around since I got back. Well, not dragging really. I’m well rested and off the jet lag, but find myself wanting to do nothing but read and relax with Crawley and as such hadn’t gotten much done in the…

London: Now & Then

London: Now & Then

We’re home! It was a great trip, though with a few more transportation hiccups than I’d have preferred. Still, as Mom liked to remind me time and again, it’s all about the adventure.  She’s not wrong.

Sunday Somethings

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

Hello from Cardiff!

Actually, as you’re reading this we are on our way back to London before flying out tomorrow, but I’m writing this from our hotel room in Cardiff, overlooking Principality Stadium and watching the sunset over some sticky toffee pudding room service and Sister Act.  Wild times, us Barua ladies, but it’s the first night where we tucked in sort of early-ish, and if the three hour nap I took earlier was any indication, it was necessary after a week of go-go-going.

I can’t wait to tell you all about what we did/saw/ate but for now, here are some nuggets that I found from the real world that snuck into my vacation bubble of bliss:

Oof. Here’s a pull-no-punches obituary.

Rihanna, you go girl.

Work has been hard the past few years, but the thing that I think sustains most of us is a united sense of purpose, and appreciation from our supervisors, so I think this is true: appreciation is the single most sustainable motivator at work.

A letter from my stupid daily walk that I take for my stupid mental health.

Prepare yourselves – the Parmesan is in trouble.

I recently had one of those deep friend conversations with one of my bests about what we would pick if we had to name a favorite food- no separate sweet/savory categories, no favorite ethnicity- just straight up food. Mine was, surprise to no one, french fries. Here- a history for the fried potato.

I’ve eaten this Sri Lankan dish twice this week and here’s a reminder for all of us to make it at home.

Where to eat if you’re out traveling Europe the next few months, summer edition.

And if you can swing it, you should since it’s so cheap right now.

This week in pictures.

Obsessed with this dress, and please convince me I don’t need it.

That’s it! Have a great day!

Sunday Somethings – July 2022

Sunday Somethings – July 2022

Hello, Sunday. Hello from London! Kicking off the first part of our 40/70 trip, Mom and I are doing our best to fight the jet leg and get ready for some tennis action tomorrow.  In my favorite place, watching my favorite sport with one of…

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious?

Something to say when you don’t know what to say. Something to say when you’re sad, angry, determined, hopeless…all of it.  Such is life for women right now, or anyone who is afraid that their rights may be in jeopardy some day soon.

I’ve tried to stay away from the news the last few days but try as I might it creeps in. How can it not? Anyway, I’m hoping this read gives you a little respite and levity in your day.

Otherwise, my weekend has been so far so good. Full of sun and friends, lots of cooking and a nostalgic movie night to help with the above set of feelings. Captain Von Trapp to the rescue.

Anyway, on we go.

Related to the above – best places for Americans to retire abroad.  Yup, and yup.

I LOVE travel planning. Love. It’s such a high. Do you agree?

I met someone yesterday who had these sandals on and when I commented on how cute they were, she whispered, almost embarrassed – “they’re crocs, and they are so comfortable.” Sold!

Um, I guess I’m glad I never tried Daily Harvest. Liver failure?! Been there, done that (long story).

I can attest to this! Friends forever.

My friend is on a road trip through all the national parks, and this just makes me want to join her (though, I sort of already did a little bit!).

The near-drowning of an Olympic swimmer, in photos. Crazy.

Loving my new toy for the season so far.

Is it peach season yet?

That’s all I’ve got. Let’s all try and have a good week, eh?
