The Art of Wandering, Paris

The Art of Wandering, Paris

Did you know that the French have a word for wandering?

Flânerie is the act of strolling, and that’s exactly what Mom and I did around Paris this trip.

You may recall that we were here not five months ago for the French Open. That was her first trip and our sole purpose for that one was tennis.

And not an hour went by when she asked when we were coming back.

So we did.

In that first trip, in just a few days, we hit the hot spots and some of the must-sees, but if you’ve ever been to the City of Lights, you know that there’s so much more to Paris than the Eiffel Tower and Champs-Élysées.  And on this trip, we got to see at least some of it.

Unlike other places, I don’t know Paris that well, and for a city that has so much history packed into every building, I wanted to know and get a feel for what I was seeing, so we did a few tours to give us a sense of some of the neighborhoods before we went off and wandered on our own.

The parks.

Place des Vosges

Jardin du Luxembourg

The shops.

The architecture.

And all the colors.

Stopping at some familiar sites…

Louvre.

Pantheon

Sacre Coeur

And some more tucked away…

The Abbey Bookshop

Saint-Chapelle

I Love You Wall

Stopping for bits and bites along the way.

Lot of steps, lots of snacks. Lots of fun.

Au revoir, Paris.

Until we wander again.

    • Just wandering around honestly! But my favorite activity was the Secret Food Tour- I just love learning about food, and Paris and the French more broadly have such an interesting (and refreshing) take and ceremony to it all.
