Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. Thanksgiving – four days to go! Who’s ready? I’m ready to eat, which is my only job. However, if you’re on kitchen duty on Thursday here are some ideas if your menu is still less than finalized. Otherwise, it seems we keep getting…

Dishes of Thanksgivings Past

Dishes of Thanksgivings Past

I’m taking a break from tropical tales to focus on the task ahead of us.  Thanksgiving. Now, Thanksgiving is Mom’s holiday in my house. She loves it, and I would never even presume to think that I will be asked to contribute anything other than…

The North Shore, Oahu

The North Shore, Oahu

Since we were supposed to originally go to Hawaii last Thanksgiving, and since it was my first time there, I’d been mild-stalking the Aulani message boards for everyone’s biggest tips and tricks on what to do and not, where to go and not, what to see and not and the number one thing everyone recommended was to leave the resort and explore The North Shore!

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. How are you?! I’m back in this midwestern winter after 10 days in paradise, and the rain/sleet/snow predictions that comes with that. It’s fine, I’m into it and the cold weather part of the year that I love (as opposed to the cold…

Sunday Somethings

Aloha, Sunday.

Hello from Hawaii!  I’m still here living the Aloha life for a few more days. Today is our last day to be tourists before I buckle down and get to working tomorrow and it’s been great. A mix of “stuff” and pool time – the best way to be. I admit that I can’t wait to be home a little bit because it seems everyone I know on the mainland has fully embraced the holidays already and I can’t wait to join in (and see my Crawley, always). Hard to think of egg nog and sweaters when I got a healthy sunburn in 80 degree weather today.

I’ve stayed off the news this week, but managed to dig of a few bits of light reading.

Don’t you just love “Am I that asshole?” Here’s a gem.

Vietnamese is being taught in college! Very cool.

I can so related to this: a library of misremembered books.

What about yourself do you take pride in? I think, for me, is that I can make people feel comfortable. I joke that I’m “everyone’s best friend”- that it’s my super power to make strangers feel like we can be best friends and in a world where people seem unapproachable and unwelcoming, I’m glad I can be the anti-of that.

I’m working on some contracts for these studies at work- science is cool. And helpful!

Reminder: boredom is okay!

It’s baking season, and here are some solid loaf-pan cakes for your choosing.

This is one of my THB faves because cardamom.

As the world opens uncertainly, I’m still keeping not-too-far, local, destinations on my list and hey, here are some ideas (hey Michigan!).

Finally, ice cream for the season.

Have a great week!

Sunday Somethings

Sunday Somethings

Hello, Sunday. It’s been a week – not the best one. Or the best month to be honest, so while we’re still hanging out here in October for another 24 hours, forgive me if I’m ready to flip the calendar to November. For that, I’m…

Mrs. Kelly’s Brown Bread

Mrs. Kelly’s Brown Bread

Nothing about this week turned out as planned.  Our poor pup fell down the stairs on Monday and sprained her leg, so I’ve been playing nursemaid to a 90 pound dog who doesn’t want to be handled- and I can’t tell if she’s being dramatic (as huskies are very prone to do – this one very much so), in pain, wants to play or just wants to be annoying while she surely but very slowly heals.

I can’t wait for Hawaii.

Monday Musings

Monday Musings

Hello, Monday. Seems like we’ve been meeting on Monday more often than Sundays these days, but I guess that is par for the course every fall, between quick trips and football and friends and well, life. Next week I’ll be heading to Hawaii for a…
